Hi my mystical tribe,
Thankyou for joinning me for the second part of The Estrogen Files.
In today's post I'll be sharing my views on whether or not I believe there to be link between unbalanced estro-levels and menopause, plus I've selected nine more herbs to share with you, that help address issues relating to Estrogen imbalances.
What is Menopause
Menopause is the name given to the period in a woman's life (now more commonly between the ages of 45 and 50) when menstruation ceases permanently and therefore no longer able to bear children.
During this stage of life, women naturally have lower levels of estradiol, this is due to the fact the ovaries are no longer producing it, and as a result menstrual cycles cease. Unfortunately this change of hormones can often be a bother to many women as it may triggers a variety of nuisance symptoms such as mood swings, vaginal dryness, hot flashes, and night sweats.
Medical intervention
Until recently, most women going through the menopause, have been treated medically with synthetic estradiol as a form of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) – usually by gel, patch or pill – to help reduce the symptoms of menopause. While I personally cannot comment on the effectiveness of HRT, there are recent studies that show greater health risks associated with HRT, including; an increased risk of blood clots, heart disease and stroke, and the possibility of developing breast cancer.
All being said I am no medical professional and so can only speak from the heart. My advice to all women interested in HRT, is to contact their medical provider, after doing your own research, bearing in mind the risks detailed above, and weighing in on your individual factors such as age, lifestyle, and medical history as this can affect how your body responds to treatment.

Estradiol and Menopause - Is there a link ?
Low estrogen levels are typically associated with younger females and women approaching menopause. This is because the estradiol hormone is not created in high amounts until a female reaches puberty and is not needed once a women goes beyond the child bearing stage.
Did you know?
Low estrogen levels are also the main cause for female related complaints including menstrual irregularities, low libido and a reduction in bone density. Infact without sufficient levels of estradiol life as we know it could be very different. The transition into womanhood delayed because of the lack of hormones to signal puberty, menstrual irregularities due to the lack of eggs being matured and released, a decline in new life because of limited hormone available to thicken the lining of the uterus and create an environment fit for conception and pregnancy.
All things considered, I've been questioning lately why so many women are experiencing menopause before the ages of 50? And if low estrogen levels affect the female systems in such a way, then surley there must be a link between estradiol levels and pre-menopausal/ menopausal women? Afterall estradiol is a type of estrogen, so let's talk about it.
The modern day woman
The modern day lifestyle has been quite detrimental to the health of this population. We live in a world of high-speed, fast Internet connection, fast food, fast transactions you name it, if they have found a way to speed it up they are working on it. But at what point do individuals slow down to overstand that the fast lifestyle is the reason for the fast decline in wellness.
Naturally as women age their reproductive hormones decline. As their bodies get ready to leave the child bearing phase some women start to experience the dredded pre-menopausal symptoms. However todays women are experiencing these changes alot earlier. Why is that?
Well I have my theories.. the main being that we are what we consume.
For example I remember being taught that each female is born with her own life time supply of eggs in her ovaries, and that when this supply diminishes and the womans cycle start to lessen the collective assumption is that menopause is nearing. But realistically its not the supply of eggs that is the problem its the decline in the estradiol hormone which is needed to mature and release the egg. So now im thinking since our bodies are programmed to communicate and regenerate, there must be way to reverse this process by increasing estradiol levels. But to do so we have to overstand what the contributing factors are that may lead to the decline in the first place.
Questions & Answers
There are many factors to consider that can alter estrogen hormonal levels, i.e. natural physique, lifestyle, health and consumer habits. However, if you are experiencing any signs and symptoms that do not align with your current stage of life or seems to be going against the natural flow, it's time to hit pause and question yourself.
Is this normal for me?
What signs or symptoms am I showing?
What am I doing or not doing that is causing my body to react this way?
Is what I consume affecting my health?
Is there anything I can do to bring my body back into balance?
This is where I would recommend anyone start. Asking yourself these questions may lead you to make the necessary adjustments to your daily routines - and who knows maybe the smallest of changes may provide the biggest benefits.

Everyone needs pointers!
Balanced estradiol levels is greatly dependent on influences outside of your bodily systems. What I mean by this is your body can only operate to a level based upon the information (what you consume) you give it. By questioning yourself you are taking back control and allow for positive change in respects to your habitual self programming.

Time to set a new programme
Sometimes setting the intention to start is easier than actually staring...everyone needs a push in the right direction from time to time. So heres a few words of encouragement!
- Overall health - our natural bodily cycles (elimination, appropriation, and assimilation) can be impacted negatively by poor health. Choosing to see your body as a whole and not as individual systems will directly impact the choices you make everyday. This is what separates the wholistic lifestyle from the modern day lifestyle. When you choose to live in states of wholeness operating in mind, body and spirit together you begin to make choices that benefit all parts of who you are.
- Dietary - fueling the body with the foods that are high in nutrients is key for maintaining balanced hormome levels. If you consume a lot of processed foods for example; fast foods, refined sugars, animal products (which are filled with antibiotics and growth hormones), and fail to consume food with real substance i.e nutrient rich fruit and veg, you are creating the right environment for estro-imbalances to occur.
- Environmental Influences - staying on the topic of consumption, what you consume isn’t limited to what goes into you mouth, but consists of all interactions. For example the products you use; hair & skin, household products and cleaners, laundry detergents, even the materials / textiles, media and music can all affect our hormone levels, which in turn affect the way our bodily systems function and communicate.
- Stress - eliminating stressing factors, whether it be mental, physical or emotional, can positively impact your hormonal state and bodily systems.
For those who wish to try a more natural approach I have compiled a list of herbs that a beneficial to women in all stages of life. Estro Food & Herbs
Nature has provided the humans population an abundant supply of herbs and other natural resources which can be remedied to benefit our overall health and wellbeing. When it comes to herbs for hormonal estrogen balancing or estrogen dominance, nature has continued to provide a steady supply of herbs that can work wonders when administered correctly.
Estro Food & Herbs is a list I have put together that each help to balance female hormone levels, and reduce symptoms relating to pms and menopause.
Closing words
Treating the symptoms of menopause can be very difficult at times. However, it can be relatively easy manage with alternative herbal therapies.
Another key factor I would like to add is maintaining healthy consumption. Making a conscious decision to eat and drink foods that work with and not against the body can also help to alleviate many of the common symptoms associated with menopause, as well as decrease the risk of developing hormonal imbalances.
I am a big advocate of the phrase 'you are what you eat', and I know part of my work is to reinforce the seriousness within this statement. Even if I only inspire one person to visualize the pros or cons of the foods they consume before actually consuming them, thats a start, and who knows it may just be enough to actually impact and influence many others.
consume a diet that falls into alignment with my daily regime and needs.
My advice to those reading / sharing this post is to consume foods that are nutritionally rich and falls within your alignment (daily regime and needs), spend enough time outside so that you can access vital amounts of vitamin D and earth communication (outside practices inc, nature walks, grounding, meditation, body movement (yoga, tai chi) etc) consume adequate amounts of hydrating waters (H302).
All a great start to reprogramming and repairing greatly beneficial. Remember, the key to balancing hormones is to live a healthy and harmonious life.
Thats all for this week, I hope you enjoyed reading. Join me next time, as we continue The Estrogen Files.
I appreciate you.
