Agrimony (Agrimonia eupatoria) is a medicinal herb primarily valued for its astringent, anti-inflammatory, and hepatic properties.

Traditionally used to treat digestive, respiratory, and skin conditions. Its high tannin content, particularly gallotannins, provides potent wound-healing and tissue-toning effects, while its bitter principles support liver and gallbladder health.

Agrimony herbal tincture > containting dried agrimony , alcohol and water (30% ABV 1:3 ratio) 

 

Herbal preparation : 

  • Take up to 4ml, 2-3 times per day, in water or natural juices
  • Place prescribed dosage under the tongue and hold for 30 seconds
  • As prescribed (for persons under medical counsel)

 

Cautions and Contraindications

  • Contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing
  • Persons experiencing constipation, anemia, or gallbladder stones should avoid or use it only under medical supervision. (the high tannin content can worsen constipation and inhibit iron absorption, potentially aggravating anemia.)
  • Agrimony is known for its stimulation effects on the liver. Due to this it may pose a risk of gallstone expulsion in those with gallbladder issues. 
  • Drug interactions are possible, particularly with; anticoagulants (due to coumarins), antidiabetic medications (due to potential blood sugar lowering), and hypertension drugs.
  • Agrimony may also cause photosensitivity dermatitis upon sun exposure due to furanocoumarins, so prolonged sun exposure after handling or ingesting it should be avoided.
  • Persons with allergic to the Rosaceae family should avoid this herb.

Glycerine-based tinctures, also known as glycerites, can last between 14 to 24 months if stored properly.
